Policies
Cancellations:
Cancellations with 24 hour notice or less must be paid in full. Cancellations with 48-24 hours notice will be charged at 50% of the cost of the scheduled hours. If the Caregiver must cancel for any reason including illness or extreme weather she will make every effort to reschedule the hours within the term of the contract or within 7 days of its end. If the Family must cancel for any reason including illness or extreme weather the Caregiver will make every effort to reschedule these hours within the term of the contract or within 7 days of its end. If the Caregiver and Family cannot mutually agree upon make up hours the contract must still be paid in full.
Late Payment:
After 2 subsequent late payments or at the Caregiver’s discretion a 10% late fee will be applied to the amount owing for each day that the payment is late.
Holidays & Overtime:
For any hours worked over 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week, the Caregiver will be paid at an overtime rate of 1.5 times her regular hourly rate. If Family requires the Caregiver to work on a general holiday or the federally observed holiday date, she will receive her overtime rate. General holidays include: New Years Day, Louis Riel Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, National Truth and Reconciliation Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Sick Policy:
To respect the Caregivers other clients and limit the spread of illnesses among infants the Caregiver will not work if anyone in the Family or household is sick. The Family is required to inform the Caregiver of any symptoms present in the household before the start of her shift and make every effort to give as much notice as possible. In the case of fevers and vomiting the Caregiver will not work until the entire household has been symptom free for 24 hours. If any member of the household tests positive for COVID-19 the Caregiver will not work until the entire household has been symptom free for 48 hours. These hours can be made up given the appropriate notice period. If any members of the household exhibit symptoms of illness and the Caregiver is not informed prior to her arrival at the home the family incurs a $150 fine.
Vaccinations:
The Caregiver is required to stay up-to-date on Influenza, Tdap, MMR, Varicella, and COVID vaccinations per local guidelines. All children under the Caregiver’s care are required to be vaccinated appropriately according to their age.
Reimbursement:
Family will pay for (in the form of a credit card or petty cash) any and all expenses incurred for mutually agreed upon transportation and childcare activities (including the Caregiver's admission costs). If requested, the Caregiver will provide receipts and invoices for any family money spent. The Caregiver agrees to use the Funds only for the purchase of groceries, household supplies, and child expenses consistent with her job duties and for other expenditures expressly authorized by the Family. The Caregiver agrees not to make any personal purchases with the Funds or to allow any other person to do so. She further agrees to safeguard the Funds and to report any loss or theft of the Funds to the Family immediately. If the Caregiver is required to use her own vehicle while working, Family will reimburse the Caregiver at the current CRA Standard Mileage Rate (70 cents per kilometer as of 01/01/2024). The Caregiver will keep track of mileage and submit it by the end of the week for reimbursement.
Driving Policy:
The Caregiver agrees to use the utmost care and to abide by the law when operating her vehicle or the family vehicle in connection with her employment under this agreement. She agrees to maintain automobile insurance and to refrain from driving in connection with her employment if her auto insurance should lapse. She also agrees to inform the Family of any violation of the traffic laws for which she is cited or any collision in which she is involved, whether or not the citation or collision occurs while she is performing her job duties. Family will provide a safe (properly fitting, non-expired, never crashed or otherwise compromised) car seat for the children. Family will make sure the car seat is installed securely and safely. If the Caregiver has an accident during a job-related drive (in either her personal vehicle or the Family’s vehicle), Family pays the insurance deductible (not to exceed $500 if in Caregiver's personal vehicle), regardless of fault, unless the Caregiver is found to be driving recklessly.
Monitoring Devices:
Family reserves the right to use cameras in their home. The family will not place cameras in private areas such as bathrooms and Caregiver’s bedroom in the home (i.e., for overnights). Family will disclose the use of cameras (both audio and video). Footage of the children or Caregiver from monitoring devices will not be shared outside the Family. Family reserves the right to use tracking devices on the children or children’s items. Family will disclose the use of tracking devices (AirTags, etc.) on any item used frequently by the Caregiver (strollers, diaper bags, vehicles, etc.). Failure to notify the Caregiver of monitoring devices is cause for termination of the contract.
Scope of Practice:
The Caregiver’s service is to provide evidenced based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, parent – baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care. The Caregiver is not a housekeeper, nor a medical practitioner and will not perform any clinical procedures, outside of assisting with breastfeeding and breastfeeding education. The Caregiver does not assess for recovery of vaginal tears or cesarean incision recovery of the client although and will observe for signs of infection and/or perinatal mental health concerns by educating the client on signs and symptoms regarding these issues. The Caregiver may provide information for the partner in order to assist in observation for signs of infection and/or perinatal mental health concern.
Social Media:
The Caregiver understands that no information about her location, plans for the day, or pictures of the children should be shared on any social media network without prior approval from the Family. If the Family would like to share the Caregiver on any social media network they must obtain her consent. The Family agrees that photographs taken while the Caregiver is working (activities, meals, etc.) may be used for marketing purposes, but will not include any identifying features of the children.
Confidentiality:
The Caregiver understands that any and all private information obtained about Family or their dependents during the course of employment, including but not limited to medical, financial, legal, and professional information, are strictly confidential and may not be disclosed to any third party for any reason. In return, Family understands that any and all private information obtained about the Caregiver during the course of employment, including but not limited to medical, financial, legal, and professional information, are strictly confidential and may not be disclosed to any third party for any reason.
