About Me
What is SunUp?
SunUp is me! Hi! I’m Amy, a certifying postpartum doula with Doula School Canada and a career nanny working in Winnipeg, MB. I have five years of professional private childcare experience, including three years working with young infants and newborns. I’ve done everything from holding the new baby straight home from the hospital so mom can take a shower to picking up your surly teen from lacrosse practice. In my years of experience I’ve seen all the ways our modern world fails to help families thrive. We no longer have those built in villages (or if we do they’re in another province, country, or continent) to lend a hand or bend an ear. With SunUp it’s my aim to support your family, in whatever way or shape that looks like for you.
My Experience
Over my years of experience I have held many roles in supporting parents and families including full and part-time nanny positions, casual babysitting, mother's helper, family assistant, and household manager. This breadth of experience has given me the opportunity to care for children of all ages, from newborns to preteens. During these positions I have been responsible for establishing and maintaining feed and sleep routines, introducing solids and developing healthy eating habits, changing diapers, establishing toileting and hygiene skills, preparing educational activities, and ensuring children meet appropriate developmental milestones. I am seasoned in school runs and transportation to various activities. Experienced in household duties and management, running errands with or without kids, and overnight care. I've worked with infant multiples, large sibling groups, and HNW families.
Caregiving Philosophy
I was raised to believe in fairness, honesty, equality, and hard work and these are the values I bring to my role as a caregiver. In my roles I prioritize learning through play, promoting age appropriate independence to build your child's confidence, and maintaining structure in the rhythms and routines of the household while also allowing for the spontaneity and fun that make a great childhood.
With infants I take a developmental science based approach that is coloured by my hands on experience with a variety of babies of different characters and temperaments. I bring this knowledge and experience with me, but I am adept at following the parents lead and providing support tailored to your family and values. I believe that new parents know themselves and their babies best, and my role as a caretaker is to support you in being the best parent you can be.
